The Ideas, Evidence and Argument in Science Education (IDEAS) Project was developed by Jonathan Osborne, King's College, University of London, Sibel Erduran, (formerly at King's College, University of London) and Shirley Simon, Institute of Education, University of London. Their goal was to assist teachers in developing their skills to teach about ideas, evidence and argument in science. The materials include worksheets and video clips to enable teachers to teach children to develop and evidence scientific argument.
They suggest teachers should focus on the features of argument shown in the diagram to the right and suggest that prompt sheets, similar to the one shown below, based around Toulmin’s model of argument are helpful in promoting children's ability to argue.
