Question:
Will things be the same in 50 years time?

Background:

No one can predict with certainty what will happen as a result of climate change. However,  a panel of 2500 scientists from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPPC) agree that it is over 90% certain that global warming and climate change are happening and that it is very likely that this is being caused by human activity.

Your task:

  • Use the diagram right to ask yourself some important questions about the future. Assume that you are thinking about 50+ years into the future 2060ish!
  • Is the scenario suggested greatly exaggerated?
  • What do you think will happen?
  • Draw your own version of the diagram below.

 Station: CARBON CENTRAL:
You now arrive back at  the terminus and you should have achieved the following:

  • Tested your personal knowledge about CARBON emissions.
  • Improved your knowledge about CARBON emissions.
  • Discovered that many figures concerning CARBON emissions are different.
  • Measured your own CARBON footprint using a suitable calculator.
  • Found out how your home is contributing towards CARBON emissions.
  • Created your own ‘action plan’ to reduce your CARBON footprint.
  • Investigated ways in which you can ‘offset’ your CARBON emissions.
  • Found out about other peoples knowledge and attitude towards CARBON emissions.
  • Looked into the future.

FOOD MILES: You may now wish to investigate the FOOD line,

You will discover the link between food production and CARBON emissions and how you can eat in a more ‘environmentally’ friendly way.
