What value does the environment have? Which area? Farmland, rainforest, desert, meadow, river, mountain, tundra or sea? And to whom? Do we value it because it is useful or because it has a value in of itself?
These are some of the questions environmental ethicists hope to answer, and quickly, because the extent of the human population and its associated technology mean we are now able to cause more damage then ever before.
